Annual Business Meeting

December 10, 2003

CALL TO ORDER

After a tour of portions of the Museum, the meeting was called to order at 7:45 PM in the Adirondack Hall at the new York State Museum in Albany, by President Jodi Reeves. The meeting was held during dinner, which was catered by Lo Porto's Sign of the Tree restaurant. The participants were welcomed and the meeting agenda was presented. Thirty-six participants were in attendance.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT

Corporate sponsors now contribute to the general fund instead of supporting specific meetings. Our current regular corporate sponsors (listed below) were thanked for their support. In addition, HKL technology and the NY State Museum were thanked for helping support this meeting. Vice-President John Sutifff was thanked for his excellent organization of this Winter meeting, and Michael Hawkins and Ed Landing the NYS Museum were thanked for providing the excellent venue and the interesting tours. Since the last meeting, CDMMS has become affiliated with both the Microbeam Analysis Society (MSA) and the Microscopy Society of America (MSA). Our liaison with MAS is Jim McGee and liaison with MSA is Mike Marko. President Reeves proposed closer liaison with local or regional societies. This was supported by Lou Peluso; Reeves had been invited as a representative of CDMMS at the recent meeting of the local TSM/ASM chapter.

Treasurer Dunn reported that the strategic plan, obtaining sufficient corporate sponsorship so that no more than 25% of our expenses would need to be covered by member dues, was realized. The corporate sponsors were again thanked: GE, ION-TOF, JEOL, LEO, PGT, and Thermo-Noran, HKL Technology, and the NY State Museum.

We made excellent use of our National Societies' affiliates Tour Speakers programs. He encouraged all members to contact him with questions and ideas with regards to the 2004 program committee. He proposed a 2004 meeting consisting of a practical workshop of some kind, and again solicited help in forming the program for such an event.
